We gathered this afternoon for a meaningful Ash Wednesday service, embracing the opportunity to pause and reflect on the powerful words, "Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return." As the season of Lent begins, we are reminded of our mortality and the call to humility, repentance, and renewal. The imposition of ashes on our forehead's marks not just a ritual, but an invitation to reflect on our own spiritual journey and our need for God's grace. It was a beautiful start to the Lenten season, as our community came together in prayer, seeking to grow in faith and deepen our relationship with God through these 40 days of reflection and transformation. May this season be one of renewal, growth, and a deeper understanding of God’s love.

What a fantastic day of Shrove Tuesday celebrations! Our preschoolers got into the spirit by flipping pancakes during their play-based inquiry time, while our lower primary students kicked off their PE class with an exciting pancake race! 🏃‍♂️🥞🏃‍♀️
Meanwhile, the staff enjoyed a delicious pancake afternoon tea as part of our team-building meeting, sharing laughs and bonding over some sweet treats. 🍓🍯

🌏 Over the past few weeks, our preschoolers have been on an exciting journey to explore and celebrate the rich diversity of cultures around them, as part of our inquiry into "Who We Are." This has been such an enriching experience for everyone! We began our exploration with China to mark the vibrant celebration of Lunar New Year, learning about traditions, customs, and the joy that comes with welcoming a new year.
This week, we turned our focus to Japan, where the children had the unique opportunity to learn about and celebrate Hina Matsuri (The Doll Festival), with a special visit from Eko who helped bring the festival to life. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the children who proudly shared aspects of their own cultural backgrounds, and to the families whose support and contributions have made this journey so special. 🎎✨ Your involvement is what makes these experiences meaningful and memorable.

Yesterday, we gathered for a special Chapel service to formally commission our Student Leaders. It was a heartfelt occasion as we celebrated these students stepping into their new roles and responsibilities. This moment marked the beginning of their leadership journey, and we are excited to see them lead by example, inspire their peers, and contribute to our school community.
Congratulations to this year's student leaders! We are incredibly proud of each of you and excited to see the positive impact you will have. Your leadership, vision, and hard work will inspire others, and we can't wait to see the marks you will leave on our school throughout this year.

We kicked off the week with a bang- celebrating Chinese New Year! Our celebration began with an incredible Lion Dance performance by the Wellington College Lion Dance group, led by Mr Feng Yu. The energy, skill, and tradition displayed in the performance truly captivated everyone. It was especially heartwarming to see that three of the performers were St Mark's alumni, a wonderful reminder of our strong and lasting community connections!
The excitement continued with a spectacular fireworks display, generously donated by the Zheng family. The bright colours and brilliant lights added an extra touch of magic to the day.

What a fantastic way to wrap up the first week of school – with a School Picnic! 🎉 The sausage sizzle, courtesy of SMILE, and the real fruit ice cream truck were definitely the highlights of the day! 🍦🌭 We had an amazing turnout, with both new and familiar faces joining in the fun.
The highlight of the event was the lollie rumble, led by Mr. Mrdalj! 🍬🎉

Seeing them so eager to reconnect with friends and teachers, and ready to dive into new learning experiences, warms our hearts. This morning, we began the day with a truly memora

This morning, we began the day with a truly memorable and heartfelt assembly to honour an exceptional leader, Mr Kent Favel. The special celebration was joined by Mr Favel's family, friends, and the families from our school community. Students from every year level, from Preschool to Year 8, came together to celebrate his leadership with a variety of performances. The Preschoolers kicked things off with the charming "Skinny-Marinky-Dinky-Dink," followed by a beautiful and moving waiata. Year 6 students brought energy and fun with a lively One Direction song, and the highlight of the assembly was the powerful haka, performed with pride and leadership by our senior students. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Mr. Favel and his time with us.

The St Mark's Running Club wrapped up an amazing year with their final run to Oriental Bay and back. With perfect weather and a smooth, flat route, the students pushed themselves to set a fantastic pace throughout the run. Their energy and enthusiasm were infectious, and even at the halfway point, everyone was still smiling and full of spirit! It was a great way to end the year, showcasing the dedication and teamwork of our runners. Looking forward to even more runs and achievements in the future! 🌟👟

What a wonderful day we had at St Mark's Preschool for our Christmas Caroling and End of Year Celebrations last Thursday, 5 December! The sunny weather set the perfect backdrop for a day full of Christmas cheer. Our tamariki looked fantastic in their bright and colourful Christmas outfits, and there were plenty of smiles, laughter, and amazing performances. We also took a moment to honour Mr Kent Favel with a beautiful portrait. A big thank you to the whanau for providing delicious kai. It was truly a day to remember! 🌟🎄🎶

The Year 8 Leavers' Dinner was such a special event for our students! Held at The Pines this year, we enjoyed stunning views, delicious food, and inspiring speeches from our Head Girl, Head Boy, and Mr Favel. A highlight of the evening was our guest speaker, Mr Craig Smith, author of 'The Wonky Donkey,' 'Willbee the Bumblebee,' and more. He was both entertaining and motivational, even treating us to a live performance of the 'Wonky Donkey' song! Craig also shared some wise advice about seizing every opportunity and using our talents to the fullest. It was a night full of fun, mixed with a bit of nostalgia as we reflected on our time at St Mark’s and looked ahead to the exciting opportunities yet to come.

Matin the Toymaker is here today to lead a fun and festive woodcraft Christmas Workshop with our preschoolers! 🎄 The children will have the chance to unleash their creativity as they design and craft their very own Christmas trees using wood and other natural materials. From carefully sanding and shaping the pieces to painting and decorating, each tree will become a unique work of art. 🎨✨ The little ones will be so proud to take home their handcrafted creations, ready to add a special, personal touch to their holiday celebrations. It’s a fantastic way to kick off the festive season, combining hands-on crafting with the magic of Christmas!

Can you believe it's only one month until Christmas Day?! 🎄✨ The festive spirit is alive and well here in the Preschool as we come together to decorate our beautiful Christmas tree. From sparkling lights to colourful ornaments, each little touch brings us closer to the magic of the season. The children have been so excited to help and see the tree come to life, and we're filled with joy as we watch the classroom transform into a winter wonderland.
