We offer our students a strong academic foundation in literacy and numeracy, as well as many specialist subjects. Our aim is to build on the students’ natural curiosity for the world around them and provide a well-balanced curriculum that incorporates the most recent research on how children learn.
St Mark’s is an IB World School, and all students, from Preschool to Year 8, explore the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) . The PYP programme teaches our students to acquire knowledge through inquiry-based learning.
We believe in a broad, balanced, holistic and transformative approach to learning and teaching. Key elements are knowledge, conceptual understanding, skills, dispositions and action.
We want students from St Mark’s School to continue to learn throughout their lives. We also want them to have a strong sense of fairness towards all people. Our goal is that, as a result of their learning, the children will take socially responsible action. Action that has an impact on themselves, their friends, the school and the community in which they live.
2021 International Baccalaureate Evaluation
In 2021, an International Baccalaureate Evaluation was conducted at St Mark’s School. Two assessors toured our school, and interviewed parents, students, teachers and Board Members.
We were very proud to earn 24 commendations in the evaluation, and to be named as a World Leader in our teaching practices.
Our school was particularly commended for promoting students’ awareness of individual, local, national and world issues. We were also commended for our strength in bringing together parents, staff and students in a very inclusive setting.
The 2021 IB Evaluation results affirm that St Mark’s School is excelling in so many ways. Both philosophically and through our day-to-day practice, we are proud to offer a world class education.
Our Teachers
Our teachers are highly qualified, with a wealth of teaching experience as well as plenty of real-world experience. Our teaching staff have taught in many countries around the world, which gives our students a truly global perspective.
Learning In Wellington
We know that learning can happen anytime, anywhere. We are lucky enough to be situated opposite the Basin Reserve, in the heart of Wellington, the world’s coolest little capital.
Learning does not only take place within our school walls. Trips to Government House, Te Papa Tongarewa, Parliament, Zealandia, Wellington Zoo and many of the city’s galleries and theatres are just a stone’s throw away. This means we can extend learning opportunities into the city.
