Accident Insurance

The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for other medical related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at:

Medical and Travel Insurance

Eligibility for Health Services: Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full cost of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health and can be viewed on their website:

International students must have appropriate travel and medical insurance while studying in New Zealand. Students must have a New Zealand based comprehensive travel, medical and personal insurance policy in place prior to departing from home and for the duration of their stay in New Zealand.

St Mark’s can arrange insurance through our preferred insurer Marsh. Marsh can arrange a Studentsafe Policy and specialise in medical and travel insurance for students studying in New Zealand. Further details can be viewed at:

St Mark’s School accepts students from Years 1-8 if living in Wellington with a parent. At the time of enrolment, the Director of International Students will check paperwork (passports/birth certificates) to establish the bona fides of the accompanying parent. Parents will need to complete a “Statement of Student Arrangements” to indicate where students are living with their parent/s.

St Mark’s will also require parents to sign in at the school office weekly to ensure they are in New Zealand at all times while students are attending school.

St Mark’s does not arrange accommodation for families at this time. Local agents may be helpful in finding suitable short or long term accommodation.

Applicants or their parents can download and submit the International Student Application and Enrolment Agreement Form available on our website. This form can also be emailed to you on request.

Families may chose to use an Education Agent who may make the first approach and will assist you with the paperwork. There are fees and commissions when using an agent and it is wise to be clear what these are before progressing. In general terms, the school is generally liable for commission on enrolment.

The form must be produced along with the following documentation before the application can be processed:

• Passport (student and parent/s)
• A recent passport-size photo
• Copies of recent school reports with verified English translationv
• Payment of the $200 Application Fee

Procedures Once an Application has been Received:

• Documents are checked and assessed
• An interview is arranged with our Principal, via Google Meet, Skype or Zoom if necessary
• A conditional Offer of Place is made and invoice for fees is sent (Fee payment by Bank Transfer is highly recommended)
• Fees received
• Non-conditional offer and receipt issued
• Pre-arrival documentation issued 6 weeks before student due to commence study
