Ko te manu e kai ana i te miro, nōna te ngāhere,
Ko te manu e kai ana i te mātauranga, nōna te Ao

The bird that partakes of the miro seed reigns in the forest
The bird that partakes in the power of knowledge has access to the world

Nau mai haere mai ki te Holm Memorial Library in memory of Miss A. Holm the first headmistress of this school from 1917-1952 and her sister Miss E.Holm.

Our library is a warm and welcoming environment for children to share, create, be curious, collaborate, relax, socialise and read. It is a space that energises learning. It is a place which supports students in developing their appreciation for literature, as well as growing their research capabilities.

Our up-to-date and engaging collection reflects the age range of our students from Preschool to Year 8. It aims to encourage and promote a life-long love of reading, and supports our learners as global citizens.

Year 7& 8 students have the opportunity to train as librarians and assist with duties during lunchtimes. They provide support in making the library a dynamic and agentic space for learning, and celebrating student passions and interests.

Classroom Library Visits

Our library supports wellbeing at St Mark’s and is open throughout the school day including at morning tea and lunchtime for students to visit during their own time. Each class visits the library at least once a week with their classroom teacher.

There is also a separate senior study area for Year 7 and 8 students to work independently.

Online Library

St Mark’s School also has an online library that can be accessed from home and school. Students are able to reserve items, search the collection and take advantage of quality online resources selected by the librarian to assist with homework.

Events At The Library

A range of events are held in the library throughout the year including Matariki celebrations, an Inter-House Book Quiz, Dress Up as Your Favourite Book Character Day and the Scholastic Book Fair.

Each year our school also enters two teams to take part in the highly competitive annual Lit Quiz competition. There are often speakers, drama performances and other literacy experiences on offer.

We would love to welcome you to our library; an environment that serves as a centre for discovery and wonder, and a space designed to energise learning.
