Mr Kent Favel
Principal

St Mark’s is such a special place to Kent Favel that this is his second time working at the school. He was the Curriculum Director and Head of Primary from 2002 to 2006, and then returned as Principal in October 2011. Kent’s career has also included roles at Ruawai Primary School and Saint Kentigern School, and he was the Founding Principal of Sunderland School and College in Auckland (now known as ACG Sunderland).
Kent’s aim is to foster the family-focused, friendly atmosphere and culture which St Mark’s is known for. He firmly believes in developing well-rounded young people who will leave St Mark’s armed with important life skills, a love of learning and an understanding that their wellbeing, sport and the arts are just as important as an academic focus.

Mrs Jane Harris
Deputy Principal

Jane has over 30 years of teaching experience across all age groups and within the independent school system. She has taught and led curriculum development within the PYP/International Baccalaureate School and Cambridge School systems.
Outside of school Jane is an active member of the triathlon community both competing and coaching. She is currently completing her Masters at Victoria University in Educational Leadership and enjoys spending time gardening, reading, travelling and spending time with her family.

“I am delighted to be joining the wonderful team here at St Mark’s School. It is a privilege to be the Deputy Principal and teacher of Year 6 students. I have spent the last 30 years teaching and leading in independent schools in the Wellington Region and I look forward to this new opportunity and experience with excitement. I have a love for developing learners who are critical thinkers and globally minded along with a passion for conceptually based pedagogy. I have previously been responsible for the Gifted and Talented programmes within the school structure and I look forward to developing new opportunities for our learners to take authentic action in the community.”

Andrea Pawley

Mrs Andrea Pawley 
PYP Coordinator

After teaching in the UK for five years, Andrea joined St Mark’s in 2008. She spent 3 years as an Associate Dean in our Lower School and joined our Senior Leadership Team in 2022 in her capacity as Dean of Learning Support. From 2023 she has taken on the PYP Coordinator role.

For a number of years she taught in Year 4 and 7 and in 2023 was team teaching in Year 6. In her role as Head of Science at St Mark’s, Andrea believes firmly in making science fun, accessible and real for students. In 2015 she spent six months working at GNS, alongside some of the country’s leading scientists in the Natural Hazards team. This incredible experience has really allowed Andrea to bridge the gap between what scientists actually do and what children learn in school.

Mrs Charmaine Ramos-Yee
Dean of Preschool

Charmaine’s qualifications include education units taken at De La Salle University in Manila, as well as postgraduate studies and a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education, with units in Educational Leadership and Management for Early Childhood Education. She has had intensive training in and exposure to the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum – Te Whariki, Reggio Emilia Approach and International Baccalaureate-Primary Years Program (IB-PYP) while working in international schools in the Philippines and New Zealand.

Mrs Jemima Southey
Dean of Lower Prinary & Year 1 Teacher

Jemima has worked in a variety of schools in the United Kingdom and in New Zealand, and first joined St Mark’s School in 2004 as a Year 3 class teacher. The following year she became the Dean of Lower Primary and part of the Senior Management Team. She has also held the positions of Head of the Maths and Social Studies Department and Acting Head of Science.

Jemima is now our Associate Dean for Years 1-4 and is currently teaching in Year 1. She strives to create a seamless transition into school for the students and their families, and a happy beginning to life at St Mark’s School.

“I am passionate about teaching and helping all students access their personal learning journey. It is about having a safe, secure place to learn and grow. A place to take risks, give things a try and have fun along the way.”

Mrs Cathy Underhill
Dean of Upper Primary

Cathy first joined St Mark’s School in 1998 as the Senior Teacher in Year 5 & 6. Over the years she has also worked as the Art/Technology teacher (across all year levels), a Year 8 teacher and she even once spent a term as Acting Deputy Principal. Cathy is now our Dean of Upper Primary, teaches a Year 5 class, teaches Science to Year 7, and has responsibility for all the staff and students from Years 5 – 8.
Some of Cathy’s highlights at St Mark’s have been the Year 7 and 8 productions, the Year 8 Exhibition, the annual World Vision Runathon and the 2019 Sporting and Cultural trip to Sydney.

Ms Viki Zadmas 
Dean of Operations

Viki has worked at several schools teaching intermediate aged students. She joined St Mark’s in 2015 and is currently a Year 8 teacher, Associate Dean for Year 5-8 and Dean of Operations from 2023. Viki also teaches RE to our Year 7 and 8s.

Viki is our Head of Netball, a sport which she is very passionate about – she coaches our school A team and during the winter most of her weekends are spent on a netball court. Viki really enjoys organising school events and one of her highlights is organising the Year 8 Leavers’ Dinner each year.

“Out of school, I love to spend time with my family and friends, go for walks and when I’m not driving my children to various activities, sit in the sun reading a good book.”

Mrs Erica Harvison
Dean of Wellbeing and Inclusion

Erica has been associated with St Mark’s since 2006 when she worked in the admin team for a year while on her OE. This inspired her to become a teacher and following her year in New Zealand, she travelled back home to the UK to complete a PGCE.
Erica taught in Buckinghamshire, England for two years and then returned to New Zealand in 2010 with her husband, James, and was offered a job as a Year 1 teacher at St Mark’s. Over the next 10 years, she taught Year 1 and Year 2 and became the Associate Dean and then Dean of the Lower Primary. Erica was the Deputy Principal for 5 years from 2019 and has now taken on the role of Dean of Wellbeing and Inclusion from 2024.

“Both of my children attend St Mark’s and have thrived here, moving through the Preschool and on into the Primary School. I feel so blessed to be part of this school community where kindness, curiosity and service are valued and encouraged. St Mark’s is and always has been, a special place”.

Mr David Mitchell
Business Manager

With qualifications in both Professional Accounting and Microcomputer Technology and extensive experience managing and delivering the full suite of business functions, David is the ideal person to lead our Business Services Team. His property management and change delivery skills also position St Mark’s well to deliver on its future development initiatives.
Away from the office, David is a keen mountain biker, DIY expert and wine enthusiast. He has completely restored a house readied for demolition into a family home and has studied and worked as a winemaker. When time allows, he also enjoys restoring vehicles. His next project – a dilapidated Vespa – is already in the garage awaiting his attention.

“I have always been inspired by the advice given to coach John Wooden by his father: ‘Make every day your masterpiece’. To me, this means focusing on what you can achieve today. It is about recognising that nothing can be done about yesterday and that you can only affect future success by what you do today – and doing the best you can do today. That’s the mindset I bring to my work at St Mark’s.”

Upper Primary

Mrs Cathy Underhill

Mrs Tyler Stevens
Year 5 Teacher

Tyler has worked in several schools in the Wellington region and enjoyed working across a variety of age groups before coming to St Mark’s. Tyler graduated with a Bachelor in Teaching and Learning (Primary) from the University of Canterbury. After taking a year off from teaching to focus on raising her young family, Tyler is excited to be back in the classroom and working in Year 5.

“I am passionate about nurturing young minds and assisting them on their journey to self-discovery. I believe that creating a safe space for learning, where every student feels seen, and comfortable to take chances is a vital step towards student success.”

Mrs Jane Harris
Deputy Principal/Year 6 Teacher

Jane joins St Mark’s as the Deputy Principal in 2024 and will teach in Year 6.
“I am enthusiastic and excited about teaching Year 6 this year. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work closely with the wonderful Mr Mrdalj, particularly on our inquiry investigations and critical thinking challenges. Connecting authentically with the tamariki in my class in order to  provide exciting and enriching learning experiences that will inspire life-long learners, is something I am passionate about. I welcome parents, caregivers and extended whānau to visit our classroom regularly to share in the learning journey of your child, celebrating the progress they have made throughout the year.”

Mr Milan Mrdalj
Year 6 Teacher

Milan taught as an ESOL teacher in China before moving into IB teaching in an IB PYP school in Shanghai, China. He taught there for 4 years before moving to New Zealand in 2018.

At St Mark’s School, Milan has taught a range of year groups and is currently teaching Year 6. Milan is also our ICT coordinator.

“What I enjoy most about working at St Mark’s is the culture of kindness. I try to make a safe and trusting class environment where it is okay to take risks, fail and learn from it. I enjoy sport and like to make sure there is laughter and fun in the classroom while we learn.”

Miss Helen Lock
Year 7 Teacher

Helen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History as well as a PGCE in Primary Education from the UK and has taught across all age ranges in schools in the UK and New Zealand. She has also held leadership positions as Sport and Maths Leader in several schools.

Helen moved to New Zealand in 2018 and first taught at St Mark’s after gaining her registration in 2020. She was a long term reliever in 8VZ and coached our Senior A Netball team. She taught in Year 6 in 2022 and is currently teaching in Year 7.

“I want children to feel excited and enthusiastic about school and their learning. I strive for strong, positive relationships with all the children I teach as well as creating engaging learning opportunities. I’m thrilled to be joining the St Mark’s team again.”

Miss Rachel Paviour-Smith
Year 7 Teacher

Rachel is a graduate of the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Science (Sports Development/Management & Business Management) and a Master of Teaching and Learning endorsed in Primary Education (Distinction).
Rachel returns to her home city, Wellington, from the Coromandel, where she has been teaching students in the upper primary years. From 2024, Rachel will teach in Year 7 and be our Head of PSPE and Sport.

“I am thrilled to be joining St Mark’s and excited to bring my passion for teaching and love of sports to contribute to the vibrant learning community at the school. My goal is to inspire students to discover their potential both in the classroom and on the field, fostering a positive and inclusive educational experience.”

Ms Lynette Kitney
Year 8 Teacher

Lynette has over 20 years of teaching experience across all age groups, including working in an international PYP school in Hong Kong. She is currently a Year 8 teacher at St Mark’s, as well as the Language Coordinator and our Year 7 and 8 Specialist Technology teacher.

Lynette’s highlights of school life include working on school productions, assisting children in gaining skills and enjoyment across all aspects of sport and PE, and encouraging a love of literature. Outside of school she enjoys singing with a large Acapella group, artistic endeavours and running.

Miss Amanda Symonds
Year 0 Teacher & Associate Dean of the Preschool

Amanda studied at Victoria University in Wellington and has a bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Studies and Education and a Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching. While studying, she worked alongside children as a holiday programme supervisor, babysitter and nanny.

After graduating Amanda worked at Brooklyn Kids for two years and also completed two terms at Lyall Bay School as a New Entrant teacher. From 2024 she began as the Associate Dean of Preschool.

“In my spare time, my partner and I enjoy baking, spending time outside, going for walks, taking out our inflatable kayak, camping and planning our next holiday!”

Ms Wendy Hannagan
Year 2 Teacher & Associate Dean of the Lower Primary

Wendy is a specialist English Language Learning (ELL) teacher with a Master’s Degree in TESOL Leadership and a Postgraduate Diploma in Second Language Teaching. She is also an experienced classroom teacher and educator of more than 30 years, with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Diploma in Teaching.

Wendy has taught in international schools in South Korea, China, and Russia, as well as in NZ schools around the country, including many years in Wellington. She is an experienced IB educator and has been a workshop facilitator for second language learning. Wendy has learned four languages to varying degrees and considers herself internationally minded and a global citizen.

Mrs Heidi Lloyd
Year 2 Teacher

Heidi was born in Durban, South Africa and studied for a Bachelor of Primary Education at the University of Natal. She has over 20 years of experience teaching Primary and Early Childhood in South Africa and the United Kingdom. She joined the St Mark’s staff in the Preschool in 2023 and is very excited to be teaching in Year 2 in 2024. Heidi, with her husband and two boys moved from South Africa to Wellington in early 2023 to start an exciting family adventure and make New Zealand their new home.
Heidi has travelled to many places and enjoys incorporating her experiences into her teaching. She is passionate about foundational phonics, reading, writing and Maths.

“I am excited about being part of the St Mark’s family and look forward to building meaningful relationships with the children, staff and parents I have contact with. I am passionate about teaching and cannot wait to journey alongside the little people I am privileged to guide through their early school years. Mrs Sandra Polaczuk
Year 3 Teacher

Sandra returns to the St Mark’s family after having taught in the New Zealand Curriculum in a Year 5/6 classroom. She holds a Graduate Diploma in Teaching from Te Herenga Waka, a Graduate Diploma in Educational Psychology from Massey University with a minor in TESOL, a degree in Special Education from Capilano University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh.
Her work experience in primary education includes employment in both Vancouver, Canada and Wellington, New Zealand and spans over two decades. She is interested in building relationships and getting to know her learners in order to address both their needs and interests.

Mrs Jacinta Zogg
Year 3 Teacher

Jacinta has been teaching at St Mark’s School since July 2010, in both the Upper and Lower Primary areas. She has taught at a variety of schools during her teaching career. Her professional Educational background is in Psychology, Classroom Teaching in the New Zealand Curriculum and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, Teaching English as a Second Language, SPELD. She also has qualifications in Jazz Theory/Harmony and Ear Training from Berklee School of Music, USA. She enjoys learning about, practising and teaching growth mindset, student agency, and embracing cultures of thinking in a multisensory classroom environment.

Within our IB, PYP transdisciplinary context here at St Mark’s School, my discoveries in using multisensory approaches, and particularly in using Music and Art to enrich and enhance our learning experiences and environment, continues to be a nourishing journey. I am blessed to help guide students to discover their inner joy, grow in developing their identity as an international learner, and to find strengths and new growth-mindset qualities within themselves, based on our school values. Our Special Character as an Anglican School continues to be a focus for my Professional Development now and in the future.

Miss Sarah Griffiths
Year 4 Teacher

Sarah joined St Mark’s in 2019 as a Year 1 teacher, in 2020 she moved to Year 2. She is the Lower Primary Literacy Coordinator and in 2024 will be teaching in Year 4.

Sarah especially loves the challenges of teaching, building knowledge, establishing good work habits and capability in these learners. She is a strong advocate for the needs of children in all areas – academic, personal, social and emotional wellbeing. She is passionate about getting students to learn through physical activity and is also dedicated to using Art to create a warm and stimulating classroom environment that encourages all students and learning styles.

“I have a strong interest and experience in literacy. I enjoy teaching ESOL students, having spent 4 years in Brunei and I am envious of anyone who can speak another language!”

Mrs Victoria Martin
Year 4 Teacher

Victoria studied at Otago University and has a Bachelor of Primary teaching degree. She worked as a teacher in Wellington for five years before moving to London for her Overseas Adventure, where she did some reliving and then landed a job at a school covering release. She then moved to Melbourne, Australia, where she had a break from teaching, working for a project management company, and working out entitlements for relocatable buildings for schools.

She had her first baby in Melbourne and then moved back to Wellington to be closer to the family during Covid. Victoria started at St Mark’s in 2019 but has had some time off for her second child and is now returning and ready to ‘make her mark’!

“I am excited to return to St Mark’s, where I will work with wonderful children, fantastic staff, and a vibrant community. I love hanging out with my partner, two young boys, and extended family in my spare time! We love spending time in nature and going for bike rides, picnics, and beach days in the summer! I love to travel and cannot wait to share this experience with my kids.”

Preschool

Mrs Charmaine Ramos-Yee
Dean of Preschool

Miss Suki Chen
Preschool Teacher

Suki was born in Guangzhou, China. Suki and her family moved to New Zealand in 2010, at the age of 13. She has worked with various age groups of students, ranging from early childhood to high school, during her Graduate Diploma of Primary Teaching at the University of Canterbury. Suki has a passion for arts and crafts and loves to paint and bake in her free time. She also loves the outdoors, and you are likely to find her swimming or hiking around the Wellington region.

“I absolutely enjoy living in Wellington with my family. I am looking forward to using my learning experience to help my tamariki have a wonderful life experience in the heart of Aotearoa.”

Mr Kazuhisa Nishimura
Preschool Teacher

Kazuhisa was born in Osaka, Japan. Kazu completed his Teaching Bachelor’s Degree at Victoria University in 2019, and while studying, he worked at St Mark’s Preschool as a Student Teacher. After his studies, Kazu returned to his home country, Japan, for three years and worked at a nursery his parents ran in Osaka. Kazu enjoys going outside and doing many physical activities or exploring nature with tamariki.

“I enjoy going outside and doing lots of physical activities or exploring nature with children. I am here to put all my energy into supporting your children, so please let me know how I can help your tamariki in their learning journey. It is good to be back at St Mark’s, and I look forward to participating in children’s learning.”

Gillian Lanham
Preschool Kaiako

Gillian has a wealth of experience in early childhood education, having raised three adult children and one grandson. She is enthusiastic about getting to know tamariki on a deeper level so that she can guide them to explore their environment and get ready to leave their mark on the world, all while offering reciprocal teaching and learning opportunities.
She loves to cook and prepare meals for her family get-togethers. She also likes to swim in the ocean at Island Bay.

“Kaiako has a significant impact on a child’s development and accomplishments. I think it’s critical to provide tamariki with the support they need to reach their full potential. To promote additional learning and engagement, it is critical to provide kids the chance to demonstrate how they think.”

Specialist Staff

Miss Courtney Abbot
Drama

Courtney joined St Mark’s School in 2022 as our specialist Drama teacher.

Courtney has been involved in all areas of teaching and facilitating, through running Drama workshops for youth to facilitating onboarding at a corporate level. In every situation she is grounded in performance-based education.

She has also been involved in professional film, theatre and TV throughout NZ, Canada and the UK, and this journey has led her to complete her Masters in Teaching and Learning specialising in Drama.

Courtney’s driving force for the authentic implementation of Drama within a schooling context centres around the physical, emotional and social benefits for students, and together building a healthy appreciation of culture and the arts.

Mrs Jo Rosario
Music

Jo is thrilled to return to the Music Department at St Mark’s after some time away. During her absence, she and her husband lived in various parts of the country, from the sunny East Coast to the beautiful top of the South. Jo enjoys time with her family in Wellington, including her one-year-old daughter and their lively black Labrador/Pointer dog.

Jo’s passion for music, especially singing, remains strong. She sings weekly with the choir at St Paul’s Cathedral and is excited to share her love of music with the classroom choirs, ensembles, and students at St Mark’s.

Miss Rachel Paviour-Smith

Mr Cameron Burns
PSPE and Sports

Cameron returns to St Mark’s having taught here as a classroom teacher from 2007-2011.He has taught both the New Zealand Curriculum and PYP, and has had experience teaching at Hangzhou International School in China where he started his journey as a Physical Education teacher.
He has experience teaching as a specialist Primary Years Programme Physical Education teacher and has completed his category 3 ‘The Role of Physical Education’ certification. Cameron enjoys working alongside PYP classroom teachers to ensure concepts and connections are made with the Units of Inquiry; year levels are studying. He enjoys making links in Physical Education with what children are learning in the classroom, whether it be talking about the benefits of exercise for the human brain or students learning how to lead a balanced, healthy lifestyle.

” I am passionate about teaching Physical Education and Health and the role it plays in our Hauora, our social and emotional wellbeing. Personally I am an active person and enjoy trail running and getting out in nature. I also enjoy playing any sport and coaching my daughter’s sports teams. I look forward to being back at St Mark’s and teaching students to enjoy sport and physical activity.”

Science

Andrea joined St Mark’s in 2008. She is currently team teaching in Year 6, is  the PYP Coordinator, as well as Head of Science.
In 2015 Andrea spent six months working at GNS, alongside some of the country’s leading scientists in the Natural Hazards team. This incredible experience allowed Andrea to bridge the gap between what scientists actually do and what children learn in school.
Andrea teaches Science as a specialist subject to Year 8 every week. Across the rest of the school, science is incorporated into the classroom programme.

Mr Levy Roberts
Acting Spanish Teacher

Born in South Africa, Levy qualified as a primary teacher in 1995 and have since taught at all educational levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary. Mathematics is Levy’s core subject. Since childhood, he has been fluent in several African languages, including Afrikaans, Zulu, Setswana, and Xhosa, as well as Dutch and Spanish. Currently, Levy is currently expanding my linguistic repertoire by learning Te Reo Māori, Japanese, and Portuguese.

Levy moved to New Zealand in 2006, initially living in Auckland for six years before relocating to Wellington in 2013. In Wellington, he is deeply involved in the Latin dance community, with Salsa being his favourite genre.

“My passion for cooking enhances my ability to teach Spanish, as I incorporate cultural and culinary elements into my lessons. I am excited to help unlock the potential of Saint Mark’s students in their Spanish language learning journey”

Ms Lynette Kitney
Technology and Engineering

Lynette has over twenty years of teaching experience across all age groups and is currently a Year 8 teacher at St Mark’s, as well as our Specialist Technology teacher.
Technology lessons are taught as a specialist subject weekly in Years 7 and 8. Across the rest of the school, the skills associated with Technology and Engineering are embedded in the classroom programme.
Other aspects of school life which Lynette particularly enjoys include working on school productions, assisting children in gaining skills and enjoyment across all aspects of sport and PE, and encouraging a love of literature. Outside of school she enjoys singing with a large Acapella group, artistic endeavours and running.

Mrs Markelle Archer
Visual Art

Children in Years 1 and 2 enjoy art with their classroom teachers, while in Years 3-8, our students have weekly lessons with Mrs Markelle Archer, our specialist Art Teacher and the Associate Dean of Specialists from 2023.
Markelle has been a primary classroom teacher and visual arts specialist for over 20 years. For the last six years, she has solely taught Visual Art as a specialist subject at St Mark’s School.
Markelle is very passionate about Art, Inquiry Learning and developing a Growth Mindset in students.
She believes that every student is an artist and the art room is their studio space where they can have fun, be creative and develop their skills.

“Outside of school, I am a mum to two girls and a feisty labradoodle. I go to the gym and walk. I
volunteer for Heart Kids Wellington and the Life Flight Trust and am a member of the Australian and NZ fontan advocacy committee.”

Mr Jose Domenech
Spanish (On Leave in 2024)

St Mark’s School is an internationally-minded school, and all students from Preschool to Year 8 have Spanish lessons every week.
Jose began at at St Mark’s in 2017 teaching Spanish as well as some sport. His lessons include not only the Spanish language but he also teaches students about the culture, life and festivals of Spain. Lessons are interactive and fun, and include hands-on learning experiences such as cooking, art and drama.

“Learning another language involves a change of mindset and offers another window to look at the
world through. It is a real privilege to be on the language learning journey with our students.”

Learning Support Staff

Mrs Erica Harvison
Dean of Wellbeing & Inclusion

Erica has been a part of St Mark’s since 2010 as a classroom teacher, Dean of Lower Primary and Deputy Principal. She now takes up the Dean of Wellbeing and Inclusion role. This involves supporting students’ learning and wellbeing, and she also directs and teaches the Arrowsmith programme.

“Education should be engaging, inspiring and equitable for all learners. I am currently undertaking my Master’s in Inclusive Education, an area of education I am passionate about. All our ākonga can thrive given the right support and understanding. I feel so lucky to be doing a job I am passionate about at a school that holds such a special place in my heart.”

Mrs Marie Ward
Reading Recovery

Marie began teaching at St Mark’s in 1976 and was a classroom teacher for many years. In 2009, she trained as a Reading Recovery Teacher and supported children needing a boost in their literacy skills.
She is training alongside the rest of the St Mark’s teachers in the Structured Literacy Programme and will continue to assist children with their learning.

“I get great satisfaction seeing children accelerate their learning through individual or small group intervention.
It is rewarding to watch the children thrive with extra support and gain confidence in their learning journey.”

Mrs Vivienne Poultney
Teacher Assistant and Arrowsmith Educator

Vivienne, a native Wellingtonian, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science with a double major in Zoology and Botany from Victoria University. Her professional journey includes management roles at a major bookstore and a large Central City Dental Surgery. Following a period as a devoted parent, she re-entered the workforce as a Teacher’s Assistant in a Northern Suburb college, where she took on diverse responsibilities, including assisting the SENCO and supporting students with Special Assessment Conditions for exams.

Since joining St Mark’s in 2017, Vivienne has served as an Arrowsmith Cognitive Educator and Learning Support Assistant, catering to students from Preschool through Year 8. In 2024, she assumed the role of SMART Director, managing the After-School Care and Holiday Programmes and her responsibilities as an Arrowsmith Educator and Numicon Math Programme Facilitator.

“I love working in education and find it a gratifying career. Helping our young people to discover, learn and grow, strengthening their learning capacities with enthusiasm and preparing them for their exciting futures”.

Ms Cindy Cole
Teacher Assistant

Cindy Cole brings over a decade of dedicated service to St. Mark’s School as a Teacher Assistant. Since joining the team in 2012, Cindy has played an integral role in students’ educational journey from Preschool through Year 8. Born and raised in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, Cindy’s roots trace back to a family that migrated from the United Kingdom. Her multicultural background enriches her understanding and appreciation for diversity, which she brings into her daily work. Cindy is deeply committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She finds joy in keeping fit and is a certified Introduction Aerobic Instructor.

Cindy’s professional qualifications include a Diploma Level 4 in Teacher Assistance, reflecting her commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Her blend of practical experience and formal education equips her with the skills necessary to effectively support the teaching staff and enhance the learning environment for students.

Miss Emma Harris
Teacher Assistant

Emma Harris is one of our teaching assistants from Italy with familial ties to New Zealand. Concurrently pursuing a nursing degree, she contemplates transitioning to teaching, seeking to amalgamate her healthcare knowledge with an enthusiasm for education. Emma is a dedicated music student, proficient in both the flute and the violin. With a passion for teaching and a diverse skill set, Emma enjoys contributing across various educational settings at St Mark’s.

Miss Elosie Fogg
Teacher Assistant

Eloise joined St Marks in 2022 as a Gap Year Student. Since then, she has discovered her love of teaching and has worked throughout the school, becoming a Teacher Assistant. Eloise is currently studying for a Bachelor of Education (Teaching) (ECE) through Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington, with aspirations of becoming a Primary teacher. Eloise has a passion for the arts, both visual and performing and is enthusiastic about exploring different forms of expression with tamariki. Eloise also took over our dance program with the help of Miss Abbot. Eloise brings 14 years of dance experience, having trained in Modern styles. She has been able to dance at a wide range of events as a part of the Capital City Dance Team. In 2018, she even travelled to Los Angeles, where she attended professional workshops and danced on stage at Disneyland. Whilst attending Wellington Girls, Eloise was a part of their Showquest team, where they won all categories she was involved in.

Business Support and Support Staff

Mr David Mitchell
Business Manager

With qualifications in both Professional Accounting and Microcomputer Technology and extensive experience managing and delivering the full suite of business functions, David is the ideal person to lead our Business Services Team. His property management and change delivery skills also position St Mark’s well to deliver on its future development initiatives.
Away from the office, David is a keen mountain biker, DIY expert and wine enthusiast. He has completely restored a house readied for demolition into a family home and has studied and worked as a winemaker. When time allows, he also enjoys restoring vehicles. His next project – a dilapidated Vespa – is already in the garage awaiting his attention.

“I have always been inspired by the advice given to coach John Wooden by his father: ‘Make every day your masterpiece’. To me, this means focusing on what you can achieve today. It is about recognising that nothing can be done about yesterday and that you can only affect future success by what you do today – and doing the best you can do today. That’s the mindset I bring to my work at St Mark’s.”

Mr Bernard Quinn
Caretaker

Bernard, our school caretaker, has been integral to our school since 2018. With a wealth of experience and a passion for maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, Bernard plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our school. Before joining our school, Bernard honed his skills in the electrical and printing industries. Beyond his duties as a caretaker, Bernard is an avid golfer who enjoys spending his weekends on the golf course and is keenly interested in online chess.

“I love working at St Mark’s; no two days are the same. I enjoy the staff, families, and of course, the children.”

Rev Dr Digby Wilkinson
Chaplain

Digby Wilkinson is the School Chaplain and has been here for 8 years. Digby is an Anglican priest who looks after the weekly chapel service alongside pastoral care when needed. Digby is also the Vicar of St Christopher’s Church in Tawa after being the Dean of Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, where his connection with St Mark’s began. Alongside his roles as a senior priest within the Diocese, Digby occasionally lectures in leadership and ethics at the tertiary level and, for fun, completed his doctorate in 2021. Digby repaired and maintained main trunk locomotives in his old life before church ministry.

“To keep life exciting, I ride a motorcycle locally and around the country. I repair everything mechanical, build computer systems and love building anything out of wood. I’m married to Jane, have a cat, want a dog, have three grown kids, waiting to be a poppa and love St Mark’s School.”

Mrs Gina Lim
Shop Manager, The Den

Gina joined St Mark’s in The Uniform Den in 2019; prior to having children, she worked in the Banking Industry for 15 years.

“I enjoy working for Alinta Apparel at St Mark’s, especially whilst my 2 children attend the school. I enjoy the community atmosphere here at St Mark’s while also meeting new families just before they embark on their St Mark’s journey”

Ms Sofia Zadimas
Finance Administrator

Sofia holds a Bachelor’s of Law and a Bachelors of Arts degree from Victoria University . Sofia joined St Mark’s in 2023 as the Office Administrator and then moved on as the Finance Administrator. Prior to this Sofia worked as the Finance Administrator at Brooklyn School and as a Property Manager for a Commercial Company.

Sofia brings a wide range of expertise and it has allowed her to apply her knowledge in a different manner. Sofia has enjoyed working with an exceptionally supportive team and has embraced the St Mark’s way.

Ms Paula na Nagara
Librarian

Paula began her career as a teacher in Aotearoa and overseas, finding it an ideal way to travel. Upon returning, she stumbled upon her true calling while working in a library, enjoying helping people explore information through books. Joining St Mark’s in 2012, she is passionate about the impact of reading on children’s development. As a fervent advocate, Paula emphasises the benefits of reading for both learning and leisure, citing accelerated vocabulary, strengthened brain connections, and enhanced insight into diverse experiences. With a deep knowledge of reading resources, she thrives on the challenge of engaging even the toughest reading critic.

“I’ve been working in school libraries since 2005. I enjoy how children respond to books – the wonder they express in finding out new facts or the creativity sparked by a new world. Reading is such an effortless and fun way to support and accelerate your child’s development I encourage all parents to get involved with their child’s reading journey.”

Director of Admissions & International Students 鲁春晓

Chunxiao Lu has over ten years of experience in the education industry in China and New Zealand. She possesses a wealth of intercultural knowledge and skills. She works at SEA CAPE at Victoria University of Wellington, assisting New Zealand business tertiary students to enter the ASEAN market. Chunxiao dedicated five years to the Confucius Institute at VUW, designing and delivering language programmes, organising school cultural workshops, and coordinating international trips.

Chunxiao holds CELTA and IBDP Chinese A qualifications and is a trained Chinese teacher. She has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. She is also an assessor for the New Zealand Manakki Scholarship.

Jess brings the experience from a dynamic 15-year teaching career across New Zealand, Australia, and England. Jess’s journey in education began with a foundation of a double degree in Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Teaching (Conjoint BA/BTEACH). This laid the groundwork for a rich and fulfilling teaching career.
At the end of 2022, seeking a new challenge and eager to contribute to the growth of education in innovative ways, Jess embraced the role of Director of Marketing at St Mark’s. This captivating transition has allowed her to apply teaching expertise in a different dimension. Jess has found immense joy in discovering and highlighting the exceptional qualities that make St Mark’s a truly extraordinary community.

A Wellington native, Sam joins the St Mark’s Business Support Team with a Bachelor of Commerce from Victoria University. With recent experience in business operations in the not-for-profit sector and over five years in business support in the legal sector, Sam brings diverse and adaptable skills to the role of Principal’s EA. Constantly seeking opportunities to challenge himself, he is excited to embrace the culture and make a difference as part of the St Mark’s team.

Sabra joined St Mark’s as School Administrator in August 2023, having moved to Wellington in 2021 from Hong Kong.
Sabra brings a varied experience to the job of School Administrator having worked in international schools in Hong Kong for over 30 years, in many roles; parent, PTA president & committee member, teaching assistant and for the last 18 years as an ESOL teacher after completing a CELTA at the University of Waikato.

“As School Administrator I definitely have the best job…lots of people contact, surrounded by tamariki, and none of the hard work of teaching! The St Mark’s whānau have been so welcoming and helpful and I am really happy to be a part of this lovely community.”
